  • Still alive!
Despite no recent updates on the site we are still active in the BeOS world. I for my part am still porting games and libraries for BeOS/ZETA and more into Haiku these days. Jixt on his side is still actively working on PhotoGrabber with also a focus on Haiku, he is doing a complete makeover on PhotoGrabber ... so watch closely to see what's happening in the future there. ;) A lot of nice things have been going on over the past year .. BeGeistert is back in Düsseldorf for one (I attended last month and beside talking to the attendees I played some table tennis with Bas (Sylable) and Stippi! A short overview on my visit is at my blog Begasus blog, ZETA-Games shifted focus also more into Haiku, but for some stuff it's still needed to compile. Haiku has progressed a LOT the last year and has grown quite stable, making it easier to build the libraries/games native in Haiku it self.

  • Haiku Code Drive 2008
Program overview The Haiku Code Drive program was thought out on the basis of the two following premises: Give the community an opportunity to make donations against tangible goals. Allow the community to directly influence where the donated funds go. This is how the Haiku Code Drive 2008 program is going to work: We have come up with the following list of candidates and their projects from the students that could not make it into the GSoC and expressed their desire to participate. We are asking the community to support the program by making donations to a common fund. We will then hold an open poll so that the community can vote for the student/project they want the donated funds to go to. How many and which of the students are sponsored is determined based on the total donations and the results of the poll. The selected candidates work on their projects, and in the end each receives a US$2,500 stipend (a milestone-based mid-term 50% payment is being considered). Tentative calendar Here is a tentative calendar for the Haiku Code Drive 2008. We may adjust the dates as we go along if necessary. May 15: list of candidates is published, and donation period starts. May 22: Poll starts. May 29: Poll ends. May 30: Final results are announced. June 1: Coding starts. August 31: Coding ends. September: Projects are evaluated by mentors/students. October: Students who completed their project successfully are paid stipend and awarded other goodies. How many students will be sponsored? We don't know. We are making this program community-funded in principle, so it will depend on the generosity of everyone. The more the funds we can raise, the more students we will be able to sponsor, the more Haiku will potentially benefit. If by adding a small difference we can sponsor one more student, we may the tap into the existing Haiku Inc. funds. Where do I make my donation? We are accepting donations via PayPal. • Haiku 'Self Hosting'
The Haiku project has reached a very important milestone. It is now possible to compile Haiku in Haike itself. This means that Haiku is now 'Self Hosting' which is a very big advantage. This will speed up the development process towards the first alpha release. Source: OSNews

  • News updates
I haven't been updating the site for a while again , this hasn't been because of a lack of news (aside that there's no ZETA news). Haiku is still growing and I was pleased with how the system feels and reacts the other day when I installed it native. I've been spending most of my time with porting the games for ZETA-Games. With Haiku being as it is at the moment I wanted to try out how and if the games would run on the system. To my surprise the most games ran pretty fine and I've been posting some screenshots on my flickr account from the games running in Haiku. As I've been doing the post mostly alone here I am forwarding you to IsComputerOn for now until I can get some help here. Haiku communities are coming up and we can only applaud that. For now: Happy xmas and best wishes for the upcoming year!! From all the BeBUG team members.

  • SkyOS GUI design pages
Like what SkyOS is doing at the moment and where it's going? then you would like to know that it's already possible to do some gui desings in SkyOS, for this purpose there is a wiki page site online now. Quote The purpose of the wiki is to act as staging ground for short term fixes, as well as long term fundamental changes to the graphical user interface (GUI) for SkyOS. This website acts like a specification for suggested and upcoming minor GUI changes. Since build 6795 of SkyOS, it has been possible to customize various aspects of the WindUI parameters by use of the DataCollectionEditor. SkyOS wiki
